The Tony Little Gazelle Cross Trainer
I first saw Tony Little demonstrating his Gazelle Cross trainer on QVC whilst watching television late one night. At first I thought it looked absolutely ridiculous and although fascinated by the charisma of the great man himself, I couldn't help feeling that this piece of equipment was definitely one that would ruin your 'street cred.' I switched the channel and didn't give it another thought. That is until my wife decided to look into getting one herself!
Of course, she had never seen the Gazelle in action and I therefore took pleasure in laughing at the prospect, and looked forward to plenty of friendly ridicule. However, in the manner that the farer sexes do when they desire something, she suitably ignored me and went and bought one anyway!
So there she was on her first round of exercises with me laughing in the background, ignoring my comments and the like, thoroughly enjoying herself. When she had finished I thought it only fair to show her what she looked like and promptly mounted the machine myself. With mocking face and aptly rude remarks, I started to swing my feet in that characteristic style of the Gazelle Cross Trainer. Unfortunately something very strange began to happen! I started to enjoy it! With reddened face (although not from the workout) I carried on using the machine and having eaten a fair amount of humble pie, continue to do so on a regular basis. I can honestly say that as far as exercise goes I think this equipment will take some beating.
Exercise for exercise sake has for me, long been a bit of a chore, and while I love sport, which usually has a purpose in the pursuit, the exercise comes secondary. However with the Gazelle I can now workout while watching television, and therefore don't get bored and demotivated. With its smooth, quiet gliding action, I can immerse myself in a program and before I know it my session is over. Then, because the Gazelle folds up flat it is a simple matter of storing it out of the way until the next time.
As for the technical aspects the Gazelle comes in various different models but all are made from strong tubular steel. It has a patented duel pivot system and independent foot plates that make you feel that you are literally walking on air! The workout builds all muscle groups and is extremely good for increasing flexibility. It is also good for all age groups.
When all is said and done, I shouldn't have knocked it until I had tried it. As for the question of 'street cred,' would I be prepared to use the Gazelle in front of other people? That is a tough one to answer as there is no doubt that when the thing is in use, you do look like a power walker who has taken up goose-stepping! However the benefits are definitely there for the taking so I think I would swallow my pride and with utter contempt for the critics, hold my chin up high and exercise with pride.
Next time you see the Gazelle being used I would strongly advise you not to laugh and certainly resist any derogatory comments, otherwise you may one day have a lot of egg to wash off your face! Would I recommend it? You bet I would, go and get one now!

Its time for Discount Dental Plans !

The pain is excrutiating, and you are going to have to see the dentist.
But, they did it again, didn't they? Your employer has once more resorted to changing carriers in your dental insurance and now you are stuck with less coverage, higher deductibles, and reduced benefits. Unfortunately, you have already exceeded the maximum allotment for your dental hygiene this year and you don't even want to know how much it is going to cost you out-of-pocket to get that tooth taken care of properly, do you?
Maybe you don't have dental insurance which is all the more reason for you to read on because one way or another, those teeth need taken care of now!! Maybe you are thinking that a dental plan is the last thing you need with all the other things flying at you every day in this fast-paced world. But nothing could be farther from the truth! People clip coupons just to save a few pennies on a jar of peanut butter but a dental plan could save them hundreds of dollars over the course of a year!
But how does a dental plan work? Isn't it the same thing as dental insurance? A dental plan is membership based but unlike dental insurance, there is only a monthly, cost effective low fee for year round savings. Any dental plan has a list of participating dentists that you can go to for services but unlike dental insurance where you are often limited to dentists in your zip code, you can see any participating dentist and receive the discounts—anywhere!
And while most dental insurance covers nearly all preventative procedures, they limit disbursements on many of the treatments that most of us in the "real world" really need like fillings, extractions, root canals, dentures, and even crowns! Why should cutbacks in your employer's plan mean cutbacks in the amount of care your teeth really need? After paying the low monthly fee and depending on the plan you choose, a dental plan can save you anywhere from 25-80% on the procedures you need now!
Whether you have dental insurance that has been cutback to the point of almost being useless or even if you are paying for everything out-of-pocket, a dental plan is the only way to go to receive top-notch care but at reduced costs! It is NOT a question of whether a dental plan is right for you but only a question of which plan is best for you and your needs!

Redecue the Risk of Diabetes by Losing Weight
Copyright 2006 Adam Waxler
Is it possible to reduce the risks of diabetes through by losing weight? How about actually reversing the effects of diabetes? The answers to these questions may surprise you.
In March, 2005, the American Diabetes Association published the results of the comprehensive Diabetes Prevention Program. The Diabetes Prevention Program was conducted at over 25 medical centers nationwide and involved thousands of participants. The participants volunteered to have their habits monitored while they followed dietary and exercise recommendations. All participants had been diagnosed with 'pre-diabetes', a condition where the blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not yet in diabetic ranges. Untreated, more than half of those people diagnosed with pre-diabetes will develop full-blown type 2 diabetes within a decade.
For the purposes of the study, the participants were divided into two groups. Both groups were given the same dietary recommendations to follow. However, the second group added exercise of at least 30 minutes per day, five days per week.
The results of the Diabetes Prevention Program were impressive. The group that followed the diet recommendations and also included daily exercise in their routines cut their risk of developing diabetes by a whopping 58%.
However, even more significant, researchers of the Diabetes Prevention Program found something that they didn't expect. The group that had added exercise to their daily routine actually had a substantial chance of reducing their blood sugar level to normal. This is something that many diabetes experts had previously thought was impossible.
Apparently, weight loss not only prevents a worsening of diabetes, it actually reverses the damage that obesity causes the insulin producing cells.
So, how much weight loss does it take to have an effect on the progression of diabetes? That depends a lot on your own body weight. Most experts agree that 5-7% of your body weight is considered "moderate weight loss". Therefore, depending on your body weight, a loss of as little as 7-10 pounds can make a difference in the progression of diabetes.
Of course, the best diets for weight loss are those that recommend steady, gradual weight loss. This type of weight loss plan usually calls for losing 1-2 pounds per week and is much more effective at keeping the weight off than any fad diet that calls for fast weight loss. The American Diabetes Society recommendations for a healthy diet to prevent diabetes is a perfect diet for steady, gradual weight loss. The diet includes the following suggested allowances:
*Grain - 6-11 servings per day (Bread, Cereal, Rice, Pasta)
*Vegetables - 3-5 servings per day
*Fruits - 2-4 servings per day Milk - 2-3 servings per day
*Meat - 4-6 ounces per day (Meat, eggs, fish, dried beans, nuts and peanut butter)
*Fats, Sweets, Alcohol - Occasional treats
Does this diet look familiar?
It's also the recommended diet for the Heart Healthy diet from the American Heart Association, and the recommendations from the USDA's new MyPyramid.
The findings on weight loss are quite clear. Losing weight through moderate exercise and eating a balanced, healthy diet not only prevents the risk of diabetes, but most other major health problems.
